OUR POLICIES

Statement of Purpose

Our purpose at MCHC is to aid and support the families of homeschooled children. We believe it to be every Christian parent's responsibility to train their children in a Godly manner as described in Proverbs 22:6 and Deuteronomy 6:5-9. We seek to provide an atmosphere that will foster this training and that will glorify the Lord Jesus Christ in all we say and do. Our mission is to create a welcoming community of families who work together to offer their children an engaging and safe place to learn and build friendships. â€‹

Statement of Faith
Bible

We believe that the Bible is the Word of God; without error as originally written. Its content has been preserved by Him and is the final authority in all manners of doctrine and faith - above all human authority. John 17:17, 2 Tim.3:16, Heb. 4:12, 2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Peter 3:15-16

God

We believe there is no God but one: the infinite Designer, Creator, and Sustainer of All existence in this or any universe - from eternity past to eternity future. God’s nature is Triune - three perfect and eternal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - who are one, in being and in purpose. John 1:1-3, 8:23-24, 10:30, Col. 1:16-19

Jesus

We believe that God, the Son, entered the world as a man to die on the cross on our behalf; a sinless sacrifice in full payment of all our sin - both past and future - satisfying the demand of God’s perfect justice. Jesus rose from the grave; authenticating His Devine Identity, as our living Prophet, Priest, and King. John 1:1-3, 1:14, Isa.9:16, Matt.1:21-23, Heb. 1:1-3, Heb. 4:14-15, Heb. 10:10-18

Forgiveness

Based on the penalty paid at the cross, we believe that the forgiveness of sins is granted by grace alone to those who receive it by faith alone. It must be received as an utterly undeserved gift or it cannot be received at all: because all credit and glory are Christ’s alone. Isa. 1:18, Romans 3:20-28, Romans 4:16, 4:22-25, Romans 6:23

Facility Use Guidelines
  • The church’s consumable supplies are not for our use.  Any non-consumable items (coffee pots, toys, etc.) are used only by permission granted and agreed upon in our bi-annual contract.

  • Food should be eaten only in designated areas. No food is to be eaten in classrooms during lunch break. Toddler and Preschooler classes are to eat seated at tables during designated snack times.

  • As part of the facility use agreement, we are responsible to leave the building as clean as we found it. Each family will be assigned times throughout the year to clean the facility.

  • Teachers and assistants should direct their classes to clean up their work space at the end of each period.

  • No playdough, moon-sand, or other messy toys in classrooms.

  • No burning, exploding, or dangerous science experiments.

  • The sanctuary, mother’s lounge, offices, back stairway and other rooms not used as classrooms are not to be accessed by our group.

Participation Policy

Parents lead MCHC and are expected to participate by volunteering weekly. There are many opportunities for parents to use their skills and talents in making this group the best it can possibly be. Whether it be teaching a class, watching babies in the nursery or helping clean up after classes, we all will contribute our part. In addition to contributing to the work, we ask the following:

  • Parents/Guardians must remain on site with their children during classes.  This is a place that depends on parental participation. It is not a drop-off facility.

  • Parents should expect to teach at least one class per school year. New families are exempt from this their first semester of enrollment but will be assigned assistant positions in classes.

  • Since we cannot function without the dependable participation of all families involved, we ask families to have no more than two planned absences per term. Please note on your class registration form the dates you will not be attending.

  • If an illness or some other emergency arises and you cannot attend, please contact the Attendance Coordinator as soon as possible.

  • All families should arrive by 8:30 AM to set up, check in, and grab a cup of coffee before Chapel service begins. Chapel starts promptly at 8:45 AM. We worship together and have a short prayer and devotional.  We also use this meeting for important announcements and any changes in our schedule. Chapel is an integral part of our Collective experience and we expect all families to attend.

  • Students must remain in class for the full class period, no early dismissals.

 Enrollment Policies
  • Nursery care, toddler class, and preschool classes are offered for the younger siblings of K-8th students only. We are unable to offer stand-alone preschool or childcare enrollment.

  • he age cut-off date for the 2017-2018 school year is September 15.

  • To enroll in kindergarten classes, students must have reached their 5th birthday before the cut-off date.

  • To enroll in preschool classes, children must be capable of independent restroom use and have reached their 3rd birthday before the cut-off date.

  • Children under 3 are offered nursery care or toddler classes.

  • Students remain in the same grade level for the entire year.

Safety policy
  • As a requirement for membership, each family agrees to abide by the rules established by the Collective.

  • Every adult who participates in our group is required to attend an online Reducing the Risk Seminar and pass a background check. Failure to meet these requirements will result in a denial of membership. The protection of our children is of the utmost importance.

  • Suspected physical or sexual abuse occurring within MCHC can be reported to leadership team who will then report it to the law authorities for further investigation. Any person guilty of physical or sexual violence toward a child or another adult will be removed from membership permanently.

  • Students must remain in groups of no less than three unless adults are present

  • At least two adults are required in all classroom environments, otherwise the door is to remain open.

  • Adults are never to be alone with children.  If we are shorthanded due to absences, and we cannot fully staff classrooms, we may either combine classes or cancel them.

  • Adults should never accompany children into the restroom. Students that need help in the restroom must be assisted by their own parents.

  • The parking lot is not a play area. Playing in and around the vehicles is not allowed.

  • Our facility is surrounded by a greenbelt. Students are not allowed to play in the woods. We have a safe, enclosed, and supervised play area available to us for break times.

  • Guests and visitors must check in with the leadership team.

Wellness Policy

Please do not bring your child to Collective if he/she has a contagious illness or infection. Your child should be symptom free for at least 24 hours before attending class. This includes, but is not limited to these symptoms:

  • Temperature of 100 degrees or higher

  • Green discharge from the nose

  • “Pink Eye”

  • Any unidentified rash, especially accompanied by a fever

  • A contagious rash such as Hand, Foot and Mouth or Ringworm

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • A productive cough with a fever

  • A sore throat with a fever

  • Lice or scabies

Please notify the Attendance Coordinator, Rachel Boe, as soon as possible if your child will be absent due to illness. If your child becomes ill while at Collective, you should take them home for the day. We will make any necessary adjustments to cover for you.

Food Allergies Policy
  • No peanuts or tree nuts are allowed in MCHC environments. Other allergens may be added to this list as determined each year based on current student requirements.

  • Parents are responsible for reporting life threatening allergies to the leadership team.

Cell Phone Policy

Students are not to use cell phones during class. The teacher has the authority to take the cell phone for the duration of class if you are using it without permission.

Adults should silence their cell phones during class time. Please limit usage to important phone calls or texts. If you must take a call, please step into the hallway to minimize distractions.

Dress Code

We expect parents and students to wear clothing appropriate for a classroom environment. The dress code basics are:

  • Skirts and shorts are not to be shorter than mid-thigh

  • Shirts must cover the torso area

  • No undergarments should be showing

  • Shoulder straps must adequately cover undergarments

  • Wear shoes while in the outdoor play area

Lunchtime Policy
  • Lunch should be eaten only in the open room near the kitchen.

  • Each family will periodically be assigned lunchtime monitoring duties.  The lunch monitors are responsible for supervising the kids in the outdoor play area.

  • If your child needs extra attention, regardless of age, please supervise them yourself.  Lunchtime monitors must supervise many children and cannot focus on just one. Your child is your responsibility.

  • If a child misbehaves and does not respond to the lunch monitors’ direction, the child will be returned to the parent.

  • The upstairs areas are off limits during lunch break.  We have use of the downstairs kitchen area and the outdoor playground.

Discipline Policy

We expect our students to be respectful to their teachers and each other. Our hope is to never need to use disciplinary actions, but we believe clear boundaries are key to helping children understand expectations. The following disciplinary steps will be enforced if the need arises:

  • First Offense - the student receives a clear warning from either the teacher, assistant, or lunch monitor. Adults are always to be loving and grace-filled, but firm.

  • Second Offense - the student is removed from class or playground, and must remain with his or her parent for the remaining time.

  • Third Offense - the student and parent will have a meeting with the Leadership Team and the teacher. If the student wishes to return to class the following week, they will be expected to follow the guidelines and change their behavior. If the situation does not improve, the student will be removed from classes for the remainder of the session.

Verbal Conflict Resolution

In the case that a disagreement arises between members of the Collective, we encourage families to go to each other to work out a solution. Usually these small issues can be resolved by simply speaking to one another with grace and love, and working it out. We encourage you to do this before involving the leadership of the Collective. If you do not feel comfortable going to the other parent on your own, come talk to us.

Physical Conflict Policy

We believe that our community is a place that everyone should feel safe. We do not allow anyone to use physical violence. If a situation of this nature arises between two or more students, the following steps will be taken:

  • Immediate removal of students involved from class or playground. They will remain with their own parents for the rest of the day.

  • All parties will meet separately with their own parents, the instructor, and the Leadership Team to resolve the issue.

  • If the students wish to return to class the following week, they must agree to follow the guidelines.

  • If another violation occurs, the students will again be removed and an appointment will be arranged with the Leadership Team. This required meeting must take place before the student can return.

The leadership team accepts the responsibility of mandatory reporting any allegations of physical or sexual abuse to the law authorities for further investigation. Any person found committing physical or sexual violence toward a child or another adult will be removed from membership permanently.

Weather Closure Policy

MCHC follows the Snohomish and Everett School Districts' bad weather policy. If Snohomish or Everett schools are closed or delayed due to bad weather, our classes will be cancelled. For those who live in outlying areas or cannot drive due to the weather, please contact the Attendance Coordinator, Rachel Boe as soon as possible.
